Protecting Your Privacy Since 1847

Last Updated: November 5, 2025

Introduction

Look, we get it - nobody really enjoys reading these things. But here at Dreadthorn Legacy Hotel, we're pretty serious about keeping your personal information safe. This place has stood for nearly two centuries, and we've built that longevity on trust. So yeah, we're gonna be straight with you about what info we collect, why we need it, and what we do with it.

By booking a room, dining with us, or even just browsing around our website, you're agreeing to what's laid out here. If something doesn't sit right with you, just give us a ring at (604) 555-8793 and we'll chat about it.

When you stay with us or make a reservation, we're gonna need some basic details to make everything work smoothly:

  • Personal Identification: Your name, address, phone number, email - the usual stuff you'd expect when booking a hotel room.
  • Payment Information: Credit card details, billing address. We process these through secure third-party payment gateways, not stored on our old manor's servers.
  • Stay Preferences: Room type you fancy, dietary restrictions for our Victorian Restaurant, whether you prefer feather or foam pillows - that sort of thing.
  • Communication Records: Emails, phone calls, or letters you send us. Yeah, some guests still write actual letters, which we love.
  • Website Usage: IP addresses, browser type, pages you visit, how long you stick around. Standard website analytics stuff.

We also collect info automatically through cookies and similar tracking tech when you're poking around our site. More on that below.

We're not in the business of collecting data just for kicks. Here's what we actually do with it:

  • Processing Reservations: Pretty obvious - we need your info to book your room and prepare for your arrival.
  • Service Delivery: Making sure your suite's ready, your dinner reservation's confirmed, your spa appointment's scheduled.
  • Communication: Sending booking confirmations, answering your questions, following up after your stay.
  • Payment Processing: Charging your card, sending receipts, handling refunds if needed.
  • Improving Our Services: Understanding what works and what doesn't so we can make things better.
  • Marketing: Only if you've said it's cool - we might send newsletters about special events, new menu items, or heritage tour updates.
  • Legal Compliance: Sometimes we've gotta keep records for tax purposes or other legal requirements in Canada.

We won't sell your data to random companies or spam you with junk. That's not our style.

Our website uses cookies - not the chocolate chip kind from our Victorian Restaurant, but the digital variety. These little files help us remember your preferences and understand how folks use our site.

Essential Cookies: These keep the site functioning properly. Can't really turn these off without breaking things.

Analytics Cookies: Help us see which pages get the most attention, where visitors are coming from, that kind of stuff. We use this to make the site better.

Marketing Cookies: Track whether you've seen our ads elsewhere online. You can disable these through your browser settings if they bug you.

Most browsers let you control cookies through their settings. Just know that blocking some cookies might make parts of our site less functional.

We keep your info pretty close to the chest, but there are a few situations where we might share it:

  • Service Providers: Payment processors, booking platforms, email services - the companies that help us run the hotel. They're all bound by confidentiality agreements.
  • Legal Requirements: If the law says we gotta hand over information, we will. Court orders, government investigations, that sort of thing.
  • Business Transfers: If we ever sold the hotel (not planning on it, but you never know), your data might be part of that transaction.
  • Emergency Situations: If there's a safety concern or medical emergency, we'll share what's necessary to protect you or others.

We don't sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes. Period.

We take security seriously around here. The manor's got some pretty robust locks on the doors, and our digital security's just as tight.

We use industry-standard encryption (SSL/TLS) for data transmission, secure servers for storage, and restrict access to your personal info to only those staff members who actually need it to do their jobs.

That said, no system's perfectly bulletproof. We do everything reasonable to protect your data, but we can't guarantee absolute security - nobody honestly can. If there's ever a breach that affects your information, we'll let you know promptly as required by Canadian privacy laws.

On your end, keep your account passwords secure and don't share your booking confirmation codes with anyone you don't trust.

Under Canadian privacy legislation (PIPEDA and provincial laws), you've got several rights when it comes to your personal data:

  • Access: You can ask to see what personal information we've got on file about you.
  • Correction: If something's wrong or outdated, you can request we fix it.
  • Deletion: In some cases, you can ask us to delete your information (though we might need to keep some records for legal reasons).
  • Opt-Out: Unsubscribe from marketing emails anytime. There's always an unsubscribe link at the bottom.
  • Portability: Request a copy of your data in a commonly used format.
  • Withdraw Consent: If we're processing your data based on consent, you can take that back.

To exercise any of these rights, just drop us a line at reservations@dreadthornlegacy.info or call (604) 555-8793. We'll get back to you within 30 days.

We don't keep your information forever - that'd be weird and unnecessary.

Booking & Stay Records: We typically keep these for seven years to comply with tax and accounting requirements in Canada.

Marketing Lists: As long as you're subscribed or until you ask to be removed.

Website Analytics: Usually aggregated and anonymized after a reasonable period.

Once we don't need your data anymore for legitimate business or legal purposes, we'll either delete it or anonymize it so it can't be traced back to you.

Our website might link to other sites - local attractions, partner businesses, tourism boards, that kind of thing. Once you click away from our site, this privacy policy doesn't apply anymore.

We try to only link to reputable places, but we're not responsible for their privacy practices. Always check their policies if you're sharing personal information with them.

Our services aren't directed at kids under 16, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them without parental consent.

If you're bringing children to stay with us, that's wonderful - we love having families visit the manor. But any bookings and related data collection need to go through a parent or guardian.

Laws change, our business evolves, and sometimes we need to update this policy. When we make significant changes, we'll post the updated version here with a new "Last Updated" date at the top.

If the changes are major, we'll try to give you a heads-up via email if we've got your contact info.

It's worth checking back here occasionally, especially if you're a regular guest. The current version is always available at dreadthornlegacy.info/privacy.html

Questions or Concerns?

If anything in this policy's unclear, or if you've got concerns about how we're handling your personal information, please don't hesitate to reach out. We'd rather answer your questions than have you worry about it.
